Comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of nebulized dexmedetomidine V/S intravenous dexmedetomidine in blunting hemodynamic response to intubation – A prospective and randomized study

Background: Endotracheal intubation stimulates sympathetic system causing transient increase in heart rate and blood pressure which may be detrimental patients with cardiovascular cerebrovascular comorbidities. Intravenous dexmedetomidine given preoperatively prevents these unfavorable changes caused by endotracheal intubation. Aims Objectives: The aims of this study were to compare effectiveness nebulized intravenous blunting hemodynamic response (HR) Materials Methods: One hundred twenty ASA I II (either gender between 18 60 years) undergoing elective surgeries under general anesthesia randomized into two equal groups prospective comparative study. Thirty minutes before induction, Group IV received 0.50 μg/kg (diluted normal saline [NS] 50 mL) as slow infusion nebulization 5 mL NS, while N 1 mixed NS up along infusion. HR mean arterial (MAP) noted at different intervals until extubation. Sedation score using Ramsay Scale (post-administration drug) adverse effects noted. Comparison MAP was done unpaired “t” test (P=0.05). Results: pre-induction comparable reducing stress sedation both post-administration drug. incidence hypotension significantly more group. Conclusion: Nebulized equally efficacious fewer side making its administration safer for maintaining stability.
